SEC gives Canton crypto regulatory relief – Why CC faces a $0.10 test

The SEC Division of Corporation Finance has clarified that it views Canton (CC) as a digital commodity, offering regulatory relief that could strengthen institutional confidence in the Canton Network. However, despite the positive development, CC continues to face selling pressure as the token approaches a critical $0.10 resistance level.

SEC clarifies Canton’s regulatory status

On November 3, the SEC Division of Corporation Finance issued a no-action letter stating that it views Canton as a digital commodity. According to the division, CC derives its value from the operations of the Canton Network and broader market dynamics rather than profits generated by the efforts of others.

The division also noted that the token lacks a central party responsible for generating its value. Based on the facts presented by Canton, the SEC division stated that it would not recommend enforcement action against the project.

However, the no-action letter reflects the division’s position based on the information provided by Canton. It does not represent a formal SEC determination that CC is not a security.

The development has nevertheless been welcomed by market participants. Miles Jennings, for instance, suggested that the SEC’s token taxonomy and subsequent guidance have created a clearer pathway for certain crypto assets to operate outside securities laws.

Could regulatory clarity accelerate institutional adoption?

The SEC’s position could provide greater legal clarity for institutions exploring tokenization on the Canton Network.

Institutional activity across the network has continued to expand. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) launched its tokenization service with 20 participants, including JPMorgan and Fidelity, for tokenized stocks.

Meanwhile, Uber piloted treasury cash transfers using HSBC tokenized deposits and Franklin Templeton funds. Taiwan’s TDCC has also joined the Canton Foundation, highlighting the network’s expanding institutional reach.

According to RWA.xyz, Canton leads the rankings for tokenized real-world assets, with approximately $348.9 billion in reported RWA value — more than seven times the combined value of the next four chains.

This growing institutional presence could strengthen the network’s long-term adoption prospects. However, whether that translates into sustained demand for CC remains a key question for traders.

CC rebounds, but selling pressure persists

CC responded positively to the regulatory development, recovering from a dip to $0.093 and reaching a local high of $0.0986.

On the daily timeframe, the token gained approximately 5%, while trading volume surged 121% to $31 million. Despite the recovery, market data indicates that sellers continue to dominate trading activity.

On the spot market, sell volume exceeded 9 million over the past 24 hours, compared with approximately 8 million in buy volume. A similar pattern emerged in perpetual futures, where sell volume climbed to 8.1 million on Binance.

The imbalance suggests that some traders remain cautious despite the regulatory news, with participants potentially using the recovery to secure profits or reduce exposure.

Can CC break above $0.10?

The $0.10 level remains a critical psychological and technical threshold for CC. A sustained move above this resistance could signal that buyers are regaining control and that the market is beginning to price in the potential benefits of regulatory clarity.

If bullish momentum strengthens, CC could extend its recovery toward $0.11 in the short term.

However, continued seller dominance could undermine the rebound. If buying demand fails to absorb the selling pressure, CC could retreat toward $0.092, putting the recent recovery at risk.

For now, the SEC’s clarification provides a positive fundamental catalyst, but CC’s ability to sustain its momentum will depend on whether buyers can overcome persistent selling pressure and reclaim the $0.10 level.
